Bringing a dog to Thailand needs a DLD import permit obtained in advance, a microchip, a rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before arrival, and a health certificate. No rabies titre test is required.

The 5 steps, in order

  1. 1. Implant an ISO-compliant microchip

    Have an ISO 11784/11785 microchip implanted. It identifies your dog on the permit and documents.

  2. 2. Rabies vaccination (at least 21 days before arrival)

    Vaccinate the dog against rabies, recorded in the vaccination book. It must be at least 21 days old and less than 1 year at arrival.

  3. 3. DLD import permit

    Apply for the import permit from the Department of Livestock Development (DLD) before travel. It is valid 60 days.

  4. 4. Veterinary health certificate

    Have the veterinary health certificate issued and endorsed by the government authority of the country of departure, shortly before travel.

  5. 5. Travel to Thailand

    The dog arrives with the import permit and certificate and is inspected on arrival. No facility quarantine for compliant pets.
